Program "membsim"
Overview
As part of my student
work the program "membsim" was created to simulate the most interesting
vibrating 2-dimensional body, a drum. The equations themself are all derived
in my student work and "membsim" calculates them. The drum is physically
approached by a infinite thin membrane with supported edges. Beside the
wave-equation physical effects like dispersion and frequency dependent
and frequency independent damping are considered. The excitation can be
modelled by an initial slap in one point and even by an external excitaion-function,
also in one point, given by any wave-file. Furthermore one can choose between
a rectangular and a circular membrane. All parameters as they appear in
my student work can be modified and so be simulated. The program "membsim"
displays the so defined membrane 3-dimensionally on the screen and calculates
the temporal development and the wave-propagation with the equations from
my student work. A wave-file to demonstrate the acoustic properties of
the model can be created too.
The rest of the site is organized as follows:
System Requirements
All you need to run "membsim":
Any IBM-compatible computer with Windows 95 or higher.
Powerful systems are strongly recommended especially for high
net-node densities or great numbers of harmonics.
But don´t worry, I programmed "membsim" on a Pentium 90.
